This section of the Appalachian Trail runs 14 miles from Dennis Cove Road to Watauga Dam Road. Along the way it passes the Laurel Fork Shelter, US 321, and the Watauga Lake Shelter.
From Elizabethton, TN take US 321 south/east past the town of Hampton. Appalachian trail crosses US 321 near Watauga Lake.
